These images represent a moment of still in the frenetic energy of a race. The wind had changed and all aboard were waiting for it to propel them forward again. A moment of pause and contemplation before the race continues.

Living on the south coast means that I am close to the Isle of Wight and am lucky enough to watch the sailing races at close quarters. I can be patient and wait for that perfect shot.

Fine art sailing photography captures the power, energy and focus that is part of the sailing races. It is like watching light and shade – the speed and agility, interspersed with waiting and pausing for the wind to pick up or change direction.

My aim as a photographer is to tell the story of the sailors and the race, through his or her images. The best photographers are able to convey the tension, drama and excitement of a race, as well as the beauty and elegance of the boats and the scenery.
